There have been many discussions and many reasons given for the slow uptake of nanofibre in many industries. Some blame production rates, some blame complexity, some blame lack of investment. Our opinion is there is a fundamental gap between the innovators (mostly academic or research institutes) and the end users. That gap is caused by the lack of engagement between researchers and nanofibre manufacturers, and a lack of consideration of the scale-up requirements. In a “technology push” market, greater consideration of the manufacturing steps beyond the lab should be taken into consideration.
